Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet
The cabinet is responsible for registering apprenticeship programs that meet federal standards, issuing nationally recognized and portable Certificates of Completion to apprentices, and promoting the development of new programs.
Registered apprenticeships are training programs that produce workers for high-demand careers through hands-on, on the job training. Apprentices earn a salary while learning specific occupational skills.
Bluegrass State Skills Corporation (BSSC)
Provides incentives to support Kentucky’s business efforts, reimbursement up to $2,000 per year, per apprentice while funds are available.
KY Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)
A scholarship of up to $500 per year is offered to high school students in Kentucky based on individual GPA and ACT/SAT scores. (This legislation was recently passed and will be available for Registered Apprentices to utilize in the 2018-2019 school year.)
Machinists Joint Apprenticeship Council (MJAC)
Acts as a liaison between specific union companies, Kentucky Education & Workforce Development Cabinet, the student and the Kentuckiana Machining Association to coordinate student state registration and machinist education requirements.
